EXPANSE

An exhibition organised by The Collective at Zing Cafe, Lincoln Performing Arts Centre.

Opening Friday 18th January, 6:30pm

Laws of physics; atmospheric variables; biological engineering and the deterioration of organs: our ability to perceive is limited by a great many factors. On average, when stood on a flat expanse, a human with perfect vision has the ability to see for a maximum of 3 miles. The result is a snapshot of the world around us.

However, what may be limited by physics and biology can be expanded by the human mind. We are able to perceive the world in ways far beyond the physical. This allows us to produce works of art portraying, probing and questioning our environment in infinitesimal ways.

This show brings together three artists who choose not to be restricted by the physical. They work in a wider realm of perception, questioning our awareness of the world and challenging the way the viewer perceives. The artists, Dean Mooney, Mateus Domingos and Josie Clouting, each work in different ways to explore how we view landscape or to use landscape in exploring a narrative. Though each artist works with different media, together they show us that ‘landscape’ is much more than the limited view before us.

The Collective have chosen to bring together three talented, emerging artists for our first exhibition in the Zing Café. This exhibition hopes to create a dialogue between these contrasting pieces, inspire discussions around the subject of landscape and contemporary art, and spark interest in local and emerging artists.
